I caved. I’d been eyeing up the first issue of Sew It Vintage but at £12.99 I was really put off buying it. However, baby arrived two weeks ago (hooray!) and I’m now breastfeeding for 90 hours a day, so I need some reading material. This came with two really gorgeous patterns, Vintage Vogue V8788 and V9187.
The 1960s top looks like a good ‘un with different options, and the 1954 dress is goooorgeous. I think I’ll try making it in this floral loveliness I found at a car boot sale for £3! Should be perfect for Christmas celebrations:
The magazine itself gives a really lovely guide through 20th Century fashion decade by decade from the 20s through to the 80s, with a sewing project for each decade, so you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. There are also some discount codes well worth checking out:
- Save 40% on Butterick patterns with code SEWIT40, available until 12th November. Weirdly this isn’t available online so you have to call 0344 880 1263 and speak to a real human being.
- 20% off all fabrics at sewessential.co.uk with code VINTAGE20, valid until 12th November. They also have 50% off Simplicity and McCall’s sewing patterns!
- Save 50% on the Simple Sew Raglan dress (perfect for this season’s statement sleeve trend) with code SEWITRAGLAN, valid until 31st December.
On a separate note, this week I also discovered new (to me) areas of The Fold Line’s brilliant online community – FREE SEWING PATTERNS! There’s both a page from the folks at The Fold Line and also a forum where any members can share patterns; the insanely popular Colette Sorbetto top is on here with a bunch of others so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this regularly:
Double confessional; I caved two-fold and also bought Sew Christmas…and a hot chocolate. This was a good day.
